On the evening of 7 April 1999, Anthony Green, an 18-year-old college student, was knocked off his bicycle and run over by a police car near Catherine Street in the Burngreave area of Sheffield.

Anthony's mother was told by police that Anthony was mistaken for a 27-year-old armed robber, though the only apparent connection was that they were both black and wore baseball caps.

The driver of the unmarked police car which chased Anthony did not identify himself as a police officer and allegedly drove his car twice at Anthony before leaving the scene of the incident.

Anthony suffered a broken leg and spent some time in hospital. A police helicopter has recorded the incident on video but this has not yet been made public.

The driver of the car has since been suspended from driving but continues with general duties.
