Michael Menson was racially abused, assaulted and set alight on the North Circular Road in North London on 28 January 1997. He died from his injuries on 16 February 1997.
The police response was to treat Michael's death as a suicide. Despite a huge amount of evidence which contradicted this theory, they remained steadfast.
However, on 16 September 1998 an inquest jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing. After a meeting with the family and the Home Secretary in November 1998, a new team of investigators led by the Race and Violent Crime Task Force was appointed. They eventually arrested and charged three suspects 51 days later.
Five months later a fourth man was also charged with the murder in northern Cyprus, which led, in November 1999, to a conviction for manslaughter.
In December 1999 one man was found guilty of murder and another of manslaughter at the Old Bailey in London.
The family are now demanding the publication of the PCA report investigating the family's complaint.
